Trash Panda | Short Animation

Project Requirements
My animation project had a couple of different requirements. This included a minimum of a 30 seconds of animation or a loop of animation. I had to make sure all my assets were functionable and that I could move them and animate them. The animation had to have natural-feeling motions and not jerking or abrupt stop-and-start motions.

Sketches
The following photo shows the initial story board that I created for my animation. Although my drawing skills are still quite amateur, I successfully planned out how my animation would work. The raccoon was going to be initially rattling around in the dumpster before being alerted by noise and popping up. The sketch also shows the baby raccoon popping up not long after it's parent.
Initial Assets
I spent between 20 and 30 hours creating the assets for my animation. I chose to create the assets from scratch versus using any other vector illustrations I had made previously To import the assets into After Effects, I had to ensure that each asset and moving part were on their own layers.
Final Animation
I estimate that I spent between 20 and 40 hours on animating the assets in After Effects. I am still new to the program and had to ask lots of questions and watch lots of tutorials. I am pretty happy with the final animation that I came up with. The assets had a lot of detail and work put into them. To successfully and seamlessly loop the animation, the assets had to return to where they were initially. This is where I had to add in the arm returning the can to the dumpster. I really pushed myself to create this animation and can't wait to see what else I come up with future projects.
